The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW) is once again a part of a national effort to strengthen our community by registering voters on Sept. 24, also known as National Voter Registration Day. As a nonpartisan unofficial national holiday, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right — the right to vote.
Those who have moved since the last election will need to re-register. Check registration status and/or register online at www.Vote411.org.
For assistance, LWVNOW volunteers can be found at the following locations this week:
• Rhinelander District Library, 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 24
• Minocqua Public Library, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24
• Grow North EcoVillage, Rhinelander, noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 27, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28.
LWVNOW has placed instructional flipbooks in public libraries in Antigo, Boulder Junction, Crandon, Eagle River, Merrill, Minocqua, Rhinelander, Three Lakes, and Tomahawk to assist with self-register online using Wisconsin’s voting site, https://myvote.wi.gov. Ask for the tools if not readily available.
The LWVNOW encompasses Florence, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida, and Vilas counties. The local league belongs to the state and national League of Women Voters, a non-partisan organization devoted to helping members and fellow citizens develop educated political opinions and act upon them through the democratic process. Monthly meetings and sponsored events are open to all.
