The most recent report from the American Association of Medical Assistants shows Nicolet College graduates consistently outperform other graduates from across the country on the national certification exam.
The new report from the Medical Assisting National Review Board shows that Nicolet posted a five-year pass rate of 94.25% for 2014 to 2018, the latest years for which number are available in the recent report. This includes a 100% pass rate for Nicolet Medical Assistant students in 2017.
The national average pass rate is 60% for students taking the certification exam for the first time, according to the American Association of Medical Assistants.
“We were absolutely thrilled to see our students perform so well on the national exam, which they are required to pass in order to work in the field,” medical assistant program director Jolene Guenthner said. “We were with them day in and day out and we know how hard they worked and how dedicated they were to their studies, and it shows in this report.”
The five years the recent report looked at 86 students graduated from the medical assistant program at Nicolet and passed the national certification exam.
“The vast majority of these graduates elected to stay and work in the Northwoods, delivering much needed quality health care to the residents who live here,” Guenthner added.
The national exam also serves as a report card of sorts on Nicolet’s medical assistant faculty and the program as a whole, said Candy Dailey, dean of health occupations at Nicolet.
“It’s always good to know that we are properly preparing students for careers as medical assistants,” Dailey said. “If the program had a low pass rate, changes would need to be made. But we know that’s not the case here at Nicolet. The report shows that both the students and the faculty are going a fantastic job.”
