January 21, 2020 by Abigail Bostwick

A woman is dead after a snowmobile crash in Iron County this past weekend.

According to a press release from the Iron County Sheriff, Iron County Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call on Sunday just before 2 a.m. reporting a snowmobiler had gone off the trail and crashed just outside of Hurley on Trail 17. The rider was unresponsive, reports say.

Hurley police and Iron County deputies immediately responded to the accident location, not far from Silver Street, the release states.

Live-saving measures were attempted right away. The patient was transported via rescue sled to an ambulance and then to Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, Mich.

The female, age 47, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is being conducted by the Iron County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
