One person dead in two-vehicle collision

August 27, 2019 by Brian Jopek

One person died as the result of a two-vehicle collision at the junction of U.S. Highway 51 and County Road H in Boulder Junction on Thursday morning, Aug. 22.

According to a press release from the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, Brian King, 29, Lac du Flambeau, died when the Chevrolet Astro minivan he was driving east on Hwy. H failed to stop at the stop sign.

The van proceeded to cross Hwy. 51 and collided with a late model Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The driver of the Silverado sustained no life threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

It’s the second fatal crash at that intersection in less than three years.

In January 2017, Richard Brandl, 77, Colby, died in the collision of a van and a tractor-trailer rig.

In that incident, a press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol stated it had been reported a white van, which turned out to be the one Brandl was driving, traveled through the intersection and struck a semi-tractor/trailer.
