‘Recruiting Women for Elected Office’ on Sept. 23

September 20, 2019

Nicolet College Learning in Retirement and the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods present “Recruiting Women for Elected Office” at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 at the Pine Lake Town Hall, 4197 River Road, Rhinelander.

Studies have documented the disproportionately low number of women holding state and federal elective offices. This is also true of local elective offices in Wisconsin. Why don’t many women run for local elected office? Findings from statewide surveys and focus groups revealed barriers women face and strategies recruiters can utilize to encourage more women to run.

This interactive presentation will offer opportunities to explore effective ways to recruit more women to run. The presenters for this community dialogue “class” are Jennifer Erickson Sauk County UW-Extension Community Resource Development Educator, Dan Hill from the UW-Extension Local Government Center, and Victoria Solomon Green County UW-Extension Community Resource Development Educator. This program is open to the public.
