Three Bear Sled Dog Race set for Feb. 1 and 2

January 31, 2020

The 40th annual Three Bear Sled Dog Races take place in Land O’ Lakes on the weekend of Feb. 1 and 2, 2020.

Fast-paced sled dog teams will run through forested trails around Land O’ Lakes, starting from the town hall grounds in downtown Land O’ Lakes. The races are hosted and organized by the local Three Bear Sled Dog Races and Games Committee. The races are sanctioned by the International Sled Dog Racing Association (ISDRA).

Racers from around the midwest and across the country come to race in a variety of divisions. Some racers don’t even use a sled. Those racers skijor, which has a racer on cross country skis pulled by one to three dogs.

This event is not just for the competitors. Spectators are appreciated with excellent viewing areas set up along the courses and at the start and finish areas on the grounds of the Land O’ Lakes Town Hall on County Highway B.

Other events and activities scheduled for the weekend include the Kids Mutt Races, Toasty Huts Bazaar, Mushers Ball, play Go Fish to win, horse-drawn wagon rides and crafts at LOLA, and ice skating and bonfire.

There are no fees for any of these events. However, attendees are encouraged to bring “Cans for Canines” or “Food for Felines.” These donations will be forwarded to the Vilas County Humane Society.

Complete information about this family friendly weekend can be found at 3bear.org or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ThreeBearSledDog Races.
