Torch ride pit stop

January 21, 2020

Representatives from local snowmobile clubs stop at the Bearskin Trailhead in Minocqua on Jan. 16 during this year’s Badger State Winter Games torch ride. Club members from Wausau, Merrill, Tomahawk, Hazelhurst and Minocqua made stops in each town and passed the torch off to one another. They stopped at the Cross Country Cruisers Clubhouse in Arbor Vitae that night and reconvened the following day, finishing in Eagle River to light an Olympic cauldron in conjunction with the World Championship Snowmobile Derby. The Badger State Games are hosted by Wausau twice-annually and offer Olympic-style sporting events for amateur athletes of all ages. The Winter Games feature 28 events including figure skating, cross-country skiing and youth snowmobiling.
