Unprecedented number of gun sales spurred by jump in new gun ownership across the country

The FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) reports over 19 million background checks since the beginning of 2020. June totals were the highest, with 3.9 million background checks for individuals looking to purchase a firearm. In Wisconsin alone, over 331,600 background checks have been performed through June in relation to firearms purchases.
