North Lakeland Discovery Center’s new Discover on Demand environmental education program videos are released each Friday, and the month of May brings new programs.
The programs are an hour long, beginning at 10 a.m., are great for teens and adults, and can be enjoyed from the comfort of home. There is a range of prices to chose from, starting at $5.
• Friday, May 8: “Intro to Birding and the Birds of the Northwoods.” Tune in to this program to learn about the ecology of the common birds found in the Northwoods and some helpful tips for bird identification, as well as how to provide a bird sanctuary.
• Friday, May 14: “Loons.” Join naturalist Licia Johnson as she discuss one of the most iconic birds of the Northwoods, the common loon.
• Friday, May 22: “Hidden Lake Creatures, Part Two.” Part two of this series (part one was May 1) to learn about even more critters that play vital roles in lakes that are “hidden” from most eyes.

Northwoods Birds & Wildlife Festival now online
Due to public health and safety concerns, the Discovery Center has made a few changes to the 16th annual Birds & Wildlife Festival on June 4 and 5. In-person field trips or lectures will not be hosted, but instead keynotes and concurrent sessions will be available as online videos.
