Vilas County pursues leads in local burglaries

December 13, 2019 by Kayla Houp

The Vilas County sheriff’s office reports having leads in recent and attempted burglaries in Vilas County.

According to sheriff Joe Fath, an attempted burglary occurred at the P.I. Pub in Presque Isle on Dec. 3 with another burglary occurring at the Thirty Point Trading Post & Tap in Winchester on the “night of Dec. 2 or early morning hours of Dec. 3.”

Fath clarified that the only burglary was at the Thirty Point Trading Post & Tap, whereas the incident at the P.I. Pub was an attempted burglary.

Following the reported burglaries, Fath said the sheriff’s office followed up with area businesses to see if any had a video system that may have recorded someone coming in.

“We have footprints at the scene and the same footprints at the burglary were at the attempted burglary,” Fath said.

In addition to pursuing leads, Fath said detectives were also working on reviewing security video from area businesses to try and identify any vehicles seen in the area at the time of the burglary and attempted burglary.

Fath urged anyone with more information about either incident to contact the Vilas County sheriff’s office at 715-479-4441 and speak with detective sergeants Shyla Belzer and Joy Torkelson.
