Wabeno Area Players presents ‘Saving Snow’ on Jan. 30
January 28, 2020
As part of its Fine Art Series, the first event of the Wabeno Area Players (WAP) 2020 season is “Saving Snow” at 7 p.m. on Jan. 30.
“Saving Snow” is a feature documentary on how ski towns are coping with warmer winters. It was made to educate audiences about the impacts of climate change on the winter economy and build support for mitigation and adaptation efforts across the country. It is the second film created by independent filmmaker Diogo Castro Freire as part of the Adaptation Now documentary project. Diogo toured the eastern seaboard with his first climate movie, “Facing the Surge,” and is hoping to reach an even broader audience with his new effort.
Learn how climate change is changing Wisconsin and the community, or is it? Leading a discussion and presentation will be Dan Dieterich. Dieterich is an advocate for climate action. He’s the co-founder and leader of the 500-member Stevens Point Chapter of the nonpartisan, nonprofit Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL). CCL has 150,000 members in over 550 chapters. He’s also one of two Wisconsin Co-coordinators who help guide the activities of the 20 CCL chapters throughout the state. CCL members are working respectfully with members of Congress to pass H.R. 763, the bipartisan Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act.
The screening will take place at the Nancy Volk Auditorium in Wabeno High School, 4325 N. Branch St. in Wabeno. The event is open and free to the general public.
