Warm for Winter Program put on hold

July 24, 2020

Organizers of the local Warm for Winter clothing giveaway have decided to put the program on hold until further notice. They will not be taking donations and do not plan to schedule distributions this fall or winter.

“It was not an easy decision,” Jan Leschke said. “The program has been such a success over the years, recycling good, warm clothing, footwear and bedding in our community.”

Because of space constraints, Leschke explained, volunteers work in close contact with each other and with donated goods. According to health experts, the possibility of spreading the virus COVID-19 increases in such conditions, something Warm for Winter organizers don’t want to ask their volunteers to do.

“We hope to be back again sometime in the near future, when it is safe to do so,” Leschke said.

She can be contacted at 715-362-7157.
