Why did the turtle cross the road?

This is the time of year turtles have laid their eggs and are headed from that dry land area of their nests back to their summer homes. They are often seen on roadways in the Northwoods at this time of year. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reports a 45% increase in turtle crossing reports in the last year. With increased awareness of turtle populations and their importance, more people are taking part and doing what they can to help turtles.
