Winter Park Community Celebration in Boulder Junction on Jan. 18

January 17, 2020

The Boulder Junction Parks Board will continue the town’s community-building wintertime activity renamed the Winter Park Community Celebration. This family-friendly event will take place from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Winter Park facility on Old Highway K, across from the town’s transfer site.

Formerly known as the “Between the Holidays” celebration, this outdoor event was previously sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and then the Boulder Junction Community Foundation. For years, the celebration took place between Christmas and New Year’s. The parks board decided to continue the tradition — this will be its 10th year — moving it to mid-January to ensure wintery weather. The board hopes to carry on the tradition of bringing families together to enjoy some good old fashioned wintertime fun.

This year’s event will highlight winter park’s lighted full-sized ice skating rink, a sledding hill and — for those looking for a little adventure — a guided snow shoe and cross country ski trek around its 1-mile loop. The oblong ski loop at winter park is perfect for beginners and families.

A roaring bon fire with campfire songs and upbeat music will complete the atmosphere. Guests are encouraged to be as active as they’d like, or to simply sit by the fire and enjoy friendly conversation in this winter wonderland setting. Enjoy a complimentary hot dog, s’more, and hot chocolate while making new friends and reconnecting with old ones.

“Boulder Junction is lucky to have a winter recreation facility like our Winter Park,” Boulder Junction park board member Barb Boston said. “The lighted ice skating rink with warming hut and skates, snowshoes and skis to borrow make it easy to participate. The park board invites everyone to come check it out, bring your family and neighbors, and get ready to have some wintertime fun.”
