‘Beyond the Headlines’ workshop at Nicolet on May 8

April 28, 2020

The Wisconsin Humanities Council is hosting a free workshop from 1 to 5 p.m. May 8 at Nicolet College Northwoods Room aimed at community leaders, journalists and concerned citizens, focused on Wisconsin’s Water Future. For more information and to register, visit https://beyondtheheadlineswisconsin.org.

The workshop will involve several panels addressing different local water issues followed by break out discussions about what water stories — from hazard mitigation and drinking water safety to fisheries and climate change — the public needs to understand. Resources/contacts and opportunity for Q&A will be provided and participants should become part of the discussion about how to better communicate Wisconsin’s water stories.

Beyond the Headlines is a program of the Wisconsin Humanities Council, funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as part of their democracy and the informed citizen project, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Local partners for this event include WXPR and Nicolet College.

The workshops are regionally focused. The first three are Coulee Region, April 25 in La Farge, which covers the Driftless from La Crosse south to the Wisconsin River; Northwoods, May 8 in Rhinelander, focusing on northern lake country; and Greater Green Bay, May 29 in Green Bay, focused on the bay of Green Bay.

Events, at dates to be determined, will also be hosted in Ashland, Eau Claire and Wausau in the fall.
