Make Music Day at LOLA on June 21

June 09, 2020

On June 21, Land O’ Lakes Art (LOLA) will host its third annual Make Music Day celebration in Land O’ Lakes. Make Music Land O’ Lakes is a free musical celebration open to the public on June 21, with performances outside local establishments around town.

Make Music Day was launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. As a member of the Make Music Alliance, LOLA is one of the thousands of cities worldwide celebrating this day with musical activities.

This year’s musical events will start at 11 a.m. with a mini music crawl. Musicians will be placed outside local establishments throughout town playing an array of music. Musicians will include: Eclectic Duo & Friends, Katlyn Koester, Beth Hassler, Jonathan Franke and more. Spectators can drive, bike, or walk to each location to stop and listen, linger a little, but keep to social distancing practices. There will also be the traveling band, Decade XS, to spot cruising up and down the streets, and car park performances from the Electric String Band at 1 p.m. at the Snowflake Ice Rink, as well as headliner, Bob Allen, of the Allen Brothers Band at 4 p.m. The day will cap off with a musical pontoon parade and sing-a-long on Black Oak Lake Beach at 6 p.m.

“This year, more than ever, music has helped us to get through this difficult time,” LOLA program director Wendy Powalisz said. “These musicians are dedicating their time to keep spreading the joy of music by playing live outside. To keep with social distancing, we have gotten creative with ways people can enjoy this day. So drive up to listen, and clap loudly for these talented and giving artists.”

With the challenges of COVID-19, this year’s event makes for a great opportunity to help lift the community’s spirit, tying into LOLA’s outlook for summer with their Art of Wellness art classes. All activities must integrate social distancing practices and other safety measures recommended by the State of Wisconsin at the time of the event. Watch for more details on Make Music Day Land O’ Lakes on LOLA’s website and their social media as they adapt to changing protocols.
