‘Strike Out Cancer’ fundraiser supports Marshfield Clinic Cancer Patient Care March 21

April 15, 2020

On Saturday, March 21, the “Ladies Night Out” bowling league, along with Eagle Lanes, will sponsor their 16th and final “Strike Out Cancer” event at the Eagle Lanes in Eagle River.

This will be a nine pin, no tap format, with three shifts of bowlers at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m. Registration will begin at 10:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m., respectively. A dedication ceremony for cancer survivors will take place at 1:45 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.

All funds raised during this event will once again be directed to the Northwoods Cancer Care Fund at Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation. Last year, the group raised over $21,000 through this event. This is the 10th year directing funds to Marshfield Clinic to benefit cancer patients being treated in northern Wisconsin.

“Right now time slots are filling fast and bowlers need to enter to get their desired time to bowl,” said Susanne Erickson, event organizer.” The event can accommodate 36 teams.

The cause has always been very personal to the “Ladies Night Out” group. Many of the members of the organizing committee and league have had personal experiences with cancer. They are either survivors themselves or have had close friends and family members who have fought the disease.

“We have done this event year after year to remember those who have passed away and celebrate with the survivors,” Erickson said. My fellow bowlers and I feel a very personal need to do something about helping to eliminate cancer in our lifetime.

“We, and other women, carry the hope that if we ourselves get cancer, Marshfield Clinic can help us get through it with the research to find a cure and/or patient care for all women and men in the Northwood’s. We feel everyone deserves a lifetime.”

The fundraising efforts provide additional research, support groups, services and resource materials for patients facing cancer.

“The dedication of the event organizers is amazing,” said Chris Kautza, gift officer at Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation. “Their passion for helping cancer patients is truly inspiring. They have helped a tremendous number of people because of their dedication and hard work over the last 16 years of this event. We look forward to celebrating that legacy during this event and are incredibly thankful for their support.”

If you cannot attend the event but would like to support Strike Out Cancer, there are a limited amount of raffle tickets available with three winners chosen. First prize is $200 from the “money tree,” second prize is $100, and third prize is $50.
