‘Meaningful community service’

June 19, 2020

To the Editor:

If you’re looking for a local example of meaningful community service by people working well together, all while having a good time, and then graciously looking for more when the work was finished, look no further than local Boy Scout Troop 564 and the Venture Crew.

Thirteen people representing Troop 564 and the Venture Crew spent their beautiful Sunday afternoon painting picnic tables at Boulder Junction’s Nichols Lake beach area. Leader Joanne Kumpula had responded to a request from the Boulder Junction parks board in need of some help. The troop willingly offered to help paint the six picnic tables as a community service project.

The tables now look like new, I met some wonderful young citizens, and hopefully they had a good experience with local government.

A heartfelt thank you from the Boulder Junction parks board to Boy Scout Troop 564 and the Venture Crew — the leaders, parents and scouts — for a job well done and hope to see you all again.
