To wear or not to wear a mask

July 14, 2020

To the Editor:

When driving through Minocqua the other day, I was appalled to see the numerous visitors unmasked and not heeding social distancing. As an Indian elder with a compromised system, it’s these actions that gain a label of an “ugly American” type. Tennessee Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander “called on Trump to start wearing a mask at least some of the time, to set a good example.” Unfortunately, the simple, lifesaving practice has become part of a political debate that says: If you’re for Trump you don’t wear a mask. If you’re against Trump, you do, Alexander said.

It’s my understanding that the number of COVID-19 cases doubled in Oneida County over Memorial Day period, and Wisconsin had hit its high at 733. As of Friday, July 3, Wisconsin hit a new high of 738 new cases in a single day.

Please be thoughtful of this lifesaving information in your daily living. We need to look after each other’s health.

Migwetch ... thank you.
