‘Wish we still had Walker’

October 01, 2019

To the Editor:

As pointed out in “Our View” (Sept. 21, 2019), we have seen this bizarre, always partisan policies of our illustrious governor. I thought Evers hit a new low when he decided to fly the “Gay Pride” flag at the Capitol, an Evers “stick-it-to-you” ploy, and a slap in the face to numerous other groups, particularily veterans. There is a time and place for some things — that was neither. But then it is Madison, so what would we expect?

Evers now says he is open to supporting mandatory gun buy-back programs. The emphasis is on “mandatory,” as in you will not have a choice. Who else but Evers would agree with Beto O’Rourke on that nonsense? “Reg Flag” bills are being introduced. In extreme cases, maybe reasonable. But how long before law-abiding citizens begin to lose their gun rights because “somebody” deems them a danger to themselves and others? Good — by second amendment to the Constitution, and also amendment four, “the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated ...” Can’t happen in America? How many outrageous things have we seen in America already, that we thought we never would?

Does Evers even realize that he is threatening millions of deer hunters, small game hunters, gun collectors, etc? Does he care about that? Thankfully Wisconsin still has a Republican-led legislature to put the brakes on some of Evers’ nonsense. Sure wish we still had Walker ...

Robert Orgeman
