Arthur R. Portz

Arthur R. Portz, age 81, of Minocqua, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Howard Young Medical Center. Art was born on Nov. 14, 1938 in Pewaukee, the son of Arthur and Dorothy (nee Meyer) Portz. He attended grade school in Pewaukee and graduated from high school in Minocqua. Art served in the United States Air Force for six years and was proud of his service. He was a member of the MinAqua Bats, Minocqua J.C.’s, Minocqua Lions, Minocqua Auxiliary Police, Minocqua Fire Department and Rescue Squad, served as a Town of Minocqua Fire Inspector and was a member of the American Legion. He owned his own electrical business, joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 1975, and retired in 2001. Art enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Northwoods. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Peggy Kniple. He is survived by his sister, Helen Wolk; children, Anne Portz, Angela “Sam” (Eric) Schmidt and Arthur Allen “Beaver” (Tracie) Portz; grandchildren, Katherine Schmidt, Zachary Schmidt, Adam Schmidt, Hunter Ludington, Michelle Portz, Justin DeGolyer and Dylan Fruh and great-granddaughter, Lilith Estrada. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Arthur Portz’s name to the Minocqua Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
