Eugene Spears

Eugene “Gene” Lyle Spears, 75, of Arbor Vitae passed into eternal life on Dec. 3, 2019 at Ascension St. Clares Hospital in Weston. 

He was born on Aug. 8, 1944 in Milwaukee, the son of Raymond and Maude (Trapp) Spears and lived his entire life in Arbor Vitae.

He graduated from Lakeland Union High School in 1962.

After, he worked as a truck driver for a few different local companies before he became the town of Arbor Vitae’s favorite plow truck driver for 32 plus years. 

After retiring from the town, he worked as a greens keeper at Trout Lake Golf Club for eight seasons.

Gene liked to snowmobile, was an avid golfer, and a dedicated deer hunter.

He also spent as a volunteer close to 30 years as engineer for the Arbor Vitae Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Bayer) Spears, also a native of Arbor Vitae and they were married for 55 years.

Together they raised two loving sons, Steven (who passed in 2013) and Jason.

Between the boys, they had four beautiful grandchildren: Julia, Jacob, Ethan and Ella. Gene is further survived by his niece Debbie Walters and cousin Anthony Spears and by many other cousins, relatives and numerous friends.

Memorial gathering for Gene was held on Thursday, Dec. 12 at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff from 3 to 6 p.m.
