Robert E. Nickerson

Robert E. “Nick” Nickerson, 97, a resident of Manitowish Waters, passed away peacefully on Jan. 15, 2020. The World War II vet was preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy (Woodbury) and Marilyn (Fisher), and his son Dan. He is survived by his son Bradley (Susan) Nickerson, three stepsons, Stephen (Linda) Fisher, Daniel (Vicki) Fisher, and Douglas (Linda) Fisher, 12 grandchildren, Beth (Kevin) Staunton, Jeffrey Nickerson, Dawn (Eric) Thurston, Ryan (Amanda) Nickerson, Lisa (Kyle) Mortimer, Lindsay Fisher, Katelyn Fisher, Shawn Fisher, Justin Fisher, Brittany Fisher, Kimberlyn (Shawn) Domaszek, Karianne Fisher and 12 great-grandchildren, Sean, Dustin, Brook, Alyssa, Brent, Olivia, Colin, Emily, Trenton, Ianna, Kaden and Easton. Robert was born in Waukegan, Ill., and after the service and college, he worked as a partner with Swartstrauber CPA. He was a retired Air Force pilot, active in Boy Scouts and a long time member of City Club of Waukegan, Elks Club, the Lions club and the American Legion. He moved to Big Lake in Manitowish Waters in 1988, where he enjoyed fishing, working around the cabin, building furniture, playing bridge, hand and foot, and cribbage.

The family will gather for visitation at Manitowish Waters Community Presbyterian Church at 9 a.m. on March 21, 2020. Services will follow at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be private.                 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Veterans Memorial Fund at the American Legion Post 480, P.O. Box 178, Presque Isle, WI, 54557.
