Biking keeps me active and outside

June 23, 2020 by Brett LaBore

Cycling is a sport I’m not super familiar with, but one that I can relate to. I love to go biking. I love to feel the wind on my face and the thrill of a whole new adventure.

Every summer when we went on vacation up north, my family and I would go biking between two cities in Minnesota named Dorset and Nevis. It was a tradition unlike any other … and we did it as a family.

I can’t remember the exact mileage between cities, but as a kid, it was long enough. The incentive was pizza at our favorite restaurant up north. Once we got full on pizza, we biked back.

There is something about getting on a bike and feeling the wind and the sunshine while enjoying nature that is so fun.

Now that I’m a little older, I love to bike more than just our traditional pizza ride. There are several reasons why that is.

Biking is a great way to get outside. It’s something I did to enjoy the summer months and the beautiful weather. Sometimes it can be hard to find things to do outside. Biking was my new favorite summer activity and a way to clear my head if anything was stressing me out.

It’s also a great way to stay active. I haven’t been a big runner, so biking has been my activity to stay fit and moving. I would often go a long distance for at least an hour at a time.

I loved my neighborhood where I grew up as well. It was fun to bike around and see the summer activities that everyone was doing. I just went around and around in a circle in my neighborhood.

Then I started venturing to some new places. There’s a couple of trails next to my house that I started to bike around. I would bike to two different parks and the nearby lake.

I’ve never done anything like mountain biking or competitions. Biking has long been a hobby that I’ve enjoyed doing over the summer months. I think it’s important to have those summer hobbies and things that get you outside and enjoying the summer air.

I never know what I’m going to see or experience when I hit the trails. I’ve seen former friends, animals and plenty of smiles from the community.

I’ve seen a lot of people in this area do volleyball, softball and golf leagues and more. Biking is yet another activity to add to the list and one that I really enjoy doing.
